This weekend is likely to see many households decorating their home ready for Christmas. It is also at this time of year when I receive increased numbers of calls regarding problems with electrics with householders taking risks with electricity that they wouldn't normally take.
As an electrician in Birmingham, one of the most common electrical mistakes I see in peoples homes is the over reliance on extension leads. Now this may not seem like a big deal if you have been using extension leads for a while, however extension leads if used incorrectly can overheat and this can lead to fire.
A London landlord has been fined after contravening fire safety laws and having unmaintained electrics throughout the property.
The property which was a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) consisting of eight bedsits over four floors, was a serious fire and electrical safety hazard. Fire safety inspectors had already issued a notice to the landlord to prevent use of the property until changes had been made to make it suitable for rental.
Product recalls. We have all heard of them, but have you ever been sent one? In many cases, product recalls can be a challenge due to the fact that many buyers are untraceable. Unregistered products, moving away from purchase addresses and even not acting on product recalls can soon become a head ache for manufacturers and retailers as they struggle to make contact with the buyers of their goods.
As an electrician in Birmingham I work with a growing number of reputable landlords in Birmingham who take electrical safety seriously. It is worth mentioning that the majority of landlords are actually reputable and care greatly about the safety of their tenants.
Do you worry about the increasing costs of electricity and other energy?
If you do, you are certainly not alone. The results of a survey carried out by the Rexel Foundation and Opinion Way indicated that 9 out of 10 people believe that fuel poverty is going to get worse. That's an incredible 90%!
According to a recent report carried out by accommodationforstudents.com (AFS) 70% of student landlords had let their properties ahead of the new September intake.
There are a lot of common myths that exist around home electrics. One of the most common myths is actually spurned on by electricians themselves and that myth is surrounding fuse boxes and upgrades. If you are a householder who has recently been recommended a fusebox upgrade, you might like to read on...
Is a fuseboard upgrade really necessary?
Electrical safety in homes is a subject very close to my heart and I am committed to spreading the important message about electrical safety in the home. One of the main problems I find when visiting homes for quotation visits is the lack of knowledge surrounding electrical safety.
I am proud to say that I have featured on the Channel 5 show – brand new house for 5k! The show if you've not seen it yet, features Linda Barker in a quest to transform peoples homes for less than £5,000. With many people believing home renovation is costly, brand new home for 5k shows how a home can be transformed on a far smaller budget.
