I am proud to say that I have featured on the Channel 5 show – brand new house for 5k! The show if you've not seen it yet, features Linda Barker in a quest to transform peoples homes for less than £5,000. With many people believing home renovation is costly, brand new home for 5k shows how a home can be transformed on a far smaller budget.

You'll find me doing various electrical jobs in the home which is testament to how cost effective it is to employ professional trades people when carrying out home renovations. The programme also highlights how, even on a small budget, allowances can be made for jobs that cannot be carried out yourself such as gas and electrical work. Don't forget to look out for my Electrical Experts top! :)

Take care when selecting an electrician!

As an electrician in Birmingham, I unfortunately see many instances where electrical work has been carried out either by the householder or worse still by an unregistered electrician. Using an unregistered electrician is bad news as normally this means you'll be paying twice for the job itself and probably more to repair other electrical damage caused as a result.

Using the services of a qualified and registered electrician will ensure the work is done safely and you'll only be paying once – it is far cheaper than paying twice!

Passing on this message via media such as television, the message gets out to the people who are interested in home projects – and who might unwittingly fall into the hands of an unscrupulous trades person.

Unsafe electrical work leaves you and your family at risk of electrical injury and a serious house fire. Electrical related house fires are currently the biggest reason for fire brigade call outs and at over 100k cost for an average house fire, its definitely a situation you want to avoid.

Electrical Competent Person

To coincide with my television appearance, a new electricians register has launched known as Electrical Competent Person. It is the only Government approved register to list the names of every fully qualified and registered electrician in England and Wales. This is the first time members of the public have been able to find a fully qualified and registered electrician in one place.

I highly recommend that anyone looking for a qualified and registered electrician consults Electrical Competent Person to avoid unregistered electricians.

Don't forget Episode 2 of brand new house for 5k airs this afternoon at 4pm!
